I've read complaints about weak AI ( I think this review was during the third or fourth expansion ). I've read independent reviews that said that just because Distant Worlds is expansive ( large number of stars ), doesn't necessarily mean that it is deep.
I read that the game launches with whatever desktop resolution you are using, so using a smaller resolution will generate larger, in-game fonts? This is one of the games where graphics don't really matter. If you want a 4x game that has tons of depth, is fully customizable as far as automation (micromanage if you want, or just play a single ship, or anything between) is concerned. As was said in that video I linked, you can essentially automate everything, and just play as a single ship Captain Kirk style and roam to do your own thing. This game is what StarDrive was aiming for, except it works, and has a ton of depth, almost near Aurora-level, and most parts of the game can be automated. Price, well Matrix/Slitherine has always been pricy, but they are serving a niche market, but hopefully with Steam, they will lend their games to holiday sales, etc.
#Distant worlds universe for sale mods
The GUI looks older, but there are several mods out there to help with that, and this new version is especially made for modding. But don't let that pollute your opinion of the game, it's pretty much in a league of its own today. I agree 100% on the font, it's my biggest pet peeve of Distant Worlds.
